Wallpaper or Paint?

While wallpaper is still popular, I'm not a big fan of wallpaper.  The countless hours I personally spent peeling wallpaper off walls cured me of the need to ever cover my walls with wallpaper! And the worst is when you strip paper off just to discover there are more layers of wallpaper beneath the paper you just spent three days stripping off!
Usually people want the wallpaper stripped because they are tired of the design or the color, and while it might take one day to paint a room, it will take at least two to three days to strip the paper off.  The cost in time and labor I feel is not worth it.
But what if you want to have a patterned wall, or a pretty border?  Painted rooms need not be just one solid color.  There are many, many painting techniques that mimic wallpaper - like faux finishes or all-over stenciling.  When these techniques are applied professionally, they are stunning and unique.  Hand-painted artistic borders make a great alternative to wallpaper borders.  And the best news of all?  When you get tired of the color or design, it can simply be painted over, without the hours of stripping and all the mess that accompanies wallpaper removal.
Paint comes in many different colors, styles and textures, so you don't have to settle for boring when it comes to bringing more personality to your walls.
